Programs at The Little Gym of Pearland provide children with so much more than an outlet for burning energy. Research shows that encouraging purposeful, repetitive, active play in young children provides a wealth of physical, developmental, and cognitive benefits and may be the key to fostering confident, successful kids.

For babies, toddlers, and preschoolers, our classes help to establish healthy, active habits, and foster important social skills like listening and cooperation. For older children, our classes complement and enhance the traditional school experience by building confidence, managing anxiety, and increase self-esteem and cognitive skills.

At The Little Gym of Pearland, we believe that kids should be able to act like kids. And we also believe fun environment are especially conducive to the kind of learning that prepares kids for life’s adventures. That’s why we encourage every child in our programs to giggle, shout, and holler to their hearts’ content. After all, when kids join in on the hoopla, they’re more excited to engage in the world around them.

Summer Safety Tips from The Little Gym

Grab your swim suit, but don’t forget the sun screen! Fire up the grill, but be careful of the hot coals! Hop into the pool, but make sure you have all necessary flotational devices! While summer is a time for relaxation and fun, it’s important to make sure all of you take all of the necessary precautions to ensure your kids are safe. Check out our top 4 summer safety tips to avoid any seasonal mishaps.

  1. H20 – Be alert (and we mean ALERT) when your child is in or around water. Children should never be around any water unsupervised, that includes a water table. For young children, a good rule of thumb is to ensure your child is within arm’s length while in or around water.
  2. Don’t skimp on the sunscreen – Reapply sunscreen often, and lay it on thick! Sunscreen should be reapplied every two hours and even more often if kids are swimming, sweating, or around water. For little ones under 6 months and young it’s best to keep them in a shady area (or have them wear one of those extra-large hats).
  3. Car safety – it goes without saying, children should never be left in a vehicle unattended during the summer months. Due to rising temperatures, cars can get as hot as 115 degrees or even higher. Make sure children know not to play in or around cars during the summer months. Also – be careful of those pesky car seat buckles – they get hot and can potentially burn your child.
  4. Helmets on – if you plan on hitting the bikes this summer, make sure your child is always wearing a helmet. Bicycle helmets should be worn snug and should be replaced every three to five years. New Year’s Resolutions for the Whole Family from The Little Gym

Giving up sweets? Nixing that bad habit? Check out these 5 New Year’s resolutions that will make an impact on the entire family:

  1. Get moving as a family. Make exercise a family affair by having an indoor dance party, an outdoor soccer or basketball game, or by going for a nightly walk, run or bike ride around the neighborhood.
  2. Make reading together a daily habit. Studies have found that reading together helps to strengthen bonds between parent and child and helps children develop important listening and communication skills. Pro tip: plan a visit to your local public library every other week to pick up new books; this will help keep the habit new and exciting.
  3. Give back more often. Contributing to a good cause improves overall happiness, well-being and self esteem. Give back as a family by donating unused toys or clothes to a local charity or volunteer your time at a local food pantry or animal shelter. Click here for more tips on giving back as a family.
  4. Unplug every once and a while. Screen time is unavoidable; we spend hours on end with electronics for either work or play. Vow to spend at least one day per month without screens. Opt for a day in nature; go for a hike or long family bike ride, end your day with books, board games, and a family dance party.
  5. Mandate family time. With busy family schedules it’s hard to find the time to actually sit down and enjoy each other’s company. Mandate 5-10 hours per week where you can all sit down and work on a puzzle, family activity, or outdoor game.
